Ambigram Voting Clinton

This ambigram was inspired by a harmless ambigram "Trump" discovered on Reddit.
It was not so good, although I found the challenge interesting enough to search the equivalent for Clinton.
Being French and not American, I am not so involved in the political debates of the United States, but as the presidential election of November 2016 approaches, I keep regularly informed of the campaign relayed by the local medias.

A pen in the hand in front of my sheet of paper, when turning "Clinton" side down, the word "Voting" simply jumped out at me ! So obvious, however nobody seemed to meet it before, surprisingly, when I typed "ambigram Clinton" on google !
It took me a few hours to elaborate my piece and to improve its shape to make it as legible as possible in both sides. But finally, since I got satisfied I decided to give it for free ! Just publishing it under a Creative Commons licence https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ambigram_Voting_Clinton.jpg - as a revenge over Trump, but also to save America :) Share and promote if you can !

Just the day after this work, I had the idea to make a short video to diffuse it on youtube.

I noticed the C of Clinton could be turned into the D of Donald quite easily, and that the H of Hillary was not too hard to compose with the T of Trump.

CH + TD / twice symmetrical horizontal + vertical

This little trick or coincidence encouraged me to look further, and finally lead to this ambigram below that intends the difficult task to read the two names in full !

ambigram Fuck You

Just for you !

As the words were censored by wikipedia, I had to change the original name "ambigram Fuck You" into "Funk You" to be able to register it !

Now enjoy :)

Ambigram Voyage / Freedom

Quotes I like  :

  • "Voyage, travel, and change of place impart vigor." ― Seneca
  • “The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off.” ― Gloria Steinem
  • “A friend is someone who gives you total freedom to be yourself.” ― Jim Morrison

Go and back !
There are always two ways in a voyage...

See also my ambigram TRAVEL posted recently on this blog.

Ambigrams have become my hobby-horse when I realised all the potential that these objects possess.
1) Ambigrams are conceptual games or purposes, as the pionneer Douglas HOFSTADTER defines and explains.
2) Ambigrams are not also playful, they are also very appreciated in the world of the creation of brands, logos and visual identities. As a friend professional designer confirmed to me : " Ambigram is the Holy Grail of the graphist... "
3) As a literate or oulipian game, the ambigram constitutes a constraint as interesting and fertile as the anagram or the palindrome, with many various possibilities due to numerous combinations and potential symmetries. So, one can spend full nights playing with a piece of sheet and a pen, discovering occasionally by chance curious and sparkling nuggets !
4) Those words are images, thus they catch both the sight and the hearing, eventually also the mind with the meaning or the poetic sense emerging from an association.
5) The apparition of the ambigrams in History is quite recent, and the practice seems to develop rapidly and universally thanks to the web technologies. So, it's a starting-up and growing subject, full of promisses !
6) Pluridisciplinal concepts, the ambigrams are located between the axis of many domains (drawing, writing, mathematics, calligraphy, etc.) and consequently can interest a large public, attracting contributors from diverse origins. For example, the personal creations of Douglas HOFSTADTER are not very graceful as far as graphism is concerned, however, they still are very interesting for a cognitician's point of view.
7) The art of the ambigram can be integrated and improved. We progress by the making and, inside this transversal universe, artists all have key points and weak points. Only a few practicians such as the king John LANGDON for example, are capable to both give birth to clever connexions and make readable any symmetrical word.
8) The Ambigram being a quite difficult task (even impossible, as some theoricians consider...), the fact to design some always impress, intrigue or surprise a little bit. It's a talent that is envied and that is generally rather appreciated, in my experience and also from the accounts that I've had.
9) There's nothing like an ambigram to draw the attention ! If you show a mirror-word to someone, he'll be happy to spend a few times to try to elucidate it, then he'll be delighted with the trick which will sound for him like a personal victory, because there is here something great or magical, that can be compared to the obvious beauty of mathematics. On the contrary, show the same word, non-symmetrical, just decorated or nicely calligraphied : this creation will be successful only 3 seconds, before leaving its spectator neutrial, since there is in the ambigram something more, something special, like a trick or a secret that the eye wants to clear out, and that the brain likes to feel.
10) Ambigrams are cool, funky, trendy, never square neither out-of-date !

Ambigram David Ilana for tattoo

This ambigram was commissioned for a tattoo with the two first names David and Ilana. The main difficulty was to invert the I into a D through a central symmetry.
Here is my visual palindrome in 5 letters :

When searching on the web "David + Ilana", I found the website ilanadavid.com that is the domain of an architect (architecture and interior design).
But there are actually dozens of websites with the name David + Ilana (facebook, LinkedIn, etc.) which seem quite common, and among them davidandilana.com.
